Isu Murtad (emailed on 7 August 2006)

Assalamualaikum warahmatuLLAH

Regarding murtad issue happening in Kulim… actually this was an old story, distributed to many since I was a high school student (I am now 25). The story said that those who join Christianity will get paid, so on so forth.. (you know the rest of the story)

An almost similar story was also distributed to many at the same time, claiming that among the tactics that those Christian missionaries used was pore holy water inside of the drinks of muslim people. In fact, there was also a claim that some so called mineral water was also mixed with holy water, and when we drink this water which is mixed with holy water, we can no longer read the syahadah, and several other claims….

Alhamdulillah, it is agreed that we should be aware about the Christianity movement. However, Islam is not like Machievelli, “matlamat menghalalkan cara”. Islam does not allow “fitnah”, even towards non-Muslim, we are not allowed to do “fitnah”.

Islam also preaches us to check and re-confirm the news which is spread towards the society. ALLAH SWT said in Surah al-hujurat {49}:6:

“Hai orang-orang yang beriman, jika datang kepadamu orang fasik membawa suatu berita, maka periksalah dengan teliti, agar kamu tidak menimpakan suatu musibah kepada suatu kaum tanpa mengetahui keadaannya yang menyebabkan kamu menyesal atas perbuatanmu itu.”

Regarding the story of the holy water pored into drinks, ex- Christian missionaries who reverted to Islam and is now very active in comparative religion talks in malaysia, bro. Abdul Rahman Ayob and Bro. Kamaruddin Abdullah confirmed that no such thing is happening, and no such effects (muslim will murtad if drink holy water) is happening. Therefore, the story of the holy water as one of the reasons which led to murtad is fake and a fitnah which should of not of accured. Though the intention was good (to make us aware of the Christianity movement), it is not the right way to do so.

Regarding murtad spreading widely in Kulim and getting paid, I can only say “wallahu a’lam”. Yet, when I was studying at Penang which is close to Kulim and Bukit Mertajam, my colleges (mutarabbi) was tasked to go to the so called Malay Church in Sunday to have a look at the church, whether is it true that many Malays are entering the church. Wallahu a’lam, from their observation, yes, there were many Malay looking people who entered the church on Sunday.

Regarding the Malaysia government allowing the spreading of other religions, I think it is best these websites anwer it for you:

http://www.myislamnetwork.net/portal/
http://www.al-nidaa.com.my/

Regarding Murtad mama and co., the best is we don’t advertise these websites, because in my opinion, it is more priority to advertise websites which bring muslims closer to the beauty of Islam such as www.harunyahya.com, and etc. Alhamdulillah, when I was a student, I’ve answered all the claims made by Hasnah Burdges and the likes of murtad mama and others which led them to murtad, given in my tazkirah at my hostel's “Surau” (hostel’s small mosque)

Hopefully I’ve answered all your questions. I will publish this email in my blog also as an information to others.

Please pray (doa) that my career as an engineer will not make me too busy to get involve in da’wah, instead my career will benefit our beloved islam.

“Hai orang-orang yang beriman, janganlah harta-hartamu dan anak-anakmu melalaikan kamu dari mengingat Allah. Barang siapa yang membuat demikian maka mereka itulah orang-orang yang rugi.”
(Surah al-Munafiqun [63]:9)
